Hi!  I’m Story Fairy!  Welcome to my library!  Here you will find many of my stories and poems.

My real name is Lily Stejskal.  I am an emerging essayist and aspiring children’s author.  Here are links to the two essays I have published so far: http://www.connotationpress.com/creative-nonfiction/1711-lily-stejskal-creative-nonfiction and http://www.connotationpress.com/creative-nonfiction/2064-lily-stejskal2-creative-nonfiction.

More about me as a writer: I’ve been making up stories since I could talk, I started typing up these stories at age eight, and I’ve wanted to be a children’s author since I was a teenager.  My thesis in college was on the importance of imagination for pre-adolescent girls, with examples from both real life and books such as “A Little Princess,” “Anne of Green Gables,” “Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm,” and “Harriet the Spy.”

More about me in general: Though I’m in my late twenties, I am and always will be a child at heart.  My first choice in movies is always Disney or something else for kids, I dress up for Halloween (and sometimes at other times of the year), and I take every opportunity to learn new things.  I hope I can use this inner child to  write books many generations of children will love.

I am a Unitarian Universalist, or UU for short.  For those of you unfamiliar with this religion, you can find a pretty good description of it here: http://uucf.org/unitarian-universalism/.  Since it is a very diverse religion, though, Unitarian Universalism means different things to different people.  For me, some of the most important parts of being a UU are caring for all life forms and the planet they call home, accepting others regardless of anything that makes them different, especially their culture, religion, and other factors that influence their beliefs, creating values and beliefs from one’s own experiences, articulating those beliefs through similar values learned from studying other religions, and learning the truth from hearing what many different cultures, belief systems, and individuals have to say.  Personally, most of my values come from Judaism, since I was raised Jewish, Earth-based religions, since I’m a nature-lover, and of course Unitarian Universalism.  In terms of Earth-based religions, some may say I’m a neo-Pagan, but like most Unitarian Universalists, I’m very confused about what I believe spiritually, and on a never-ending journey to find out!

I am also autistic.  I was born with autism and have always had a hard time functioning socially.  Luckily, due to lots of help early on, I am much more socially able than I used to be.  Part of the reason I chose to be a Unitarian Universalist is that this religion values and accepts people who are different.

More about my blog: Right now, this blog is primarily for sharing my writing.  I may try other types of posts once I’ve read more books on blogging and have more ideas, but right now, I am posting mostly poems and sometimes stories.  I love writing both stories and poems, but for me story writing is much more consistent than writing poems.  At the same time, though, it takes me longer to write a good story than a good poem.  For those two reasons, my posting of poems and stories on this site is very irregular.  I usually write and post stuff on this blog whenever the urge hits, so please check my blog often.

Hope you enjoy my library, and thanks for stopping by!  Please contact me at lilyrstejskal@gmail.com.  I would love to connect with other bloggers.  Take care!

  1. Hi, Thanks for your lovely long message, really great of you to take the time! I’m pleased you found so much to relate to!!! I’ll take a look at your essay, well done on getting it published! yeah writing about myself is not my strong point. I do use aspects of my own life in my writing, but it’s always so twisted up in the main plot that it becomes almost unrecognisable. I hope you enjoy writing your screenplay, sounds good, fantasy adventure is a brilliant genre, My favourite books are the Harry Potter series, such detailed worlds!
I’m following this new Blog and can’t wait to read more of your stuff! Thanks again, I hope you enjoy following my blog!!
    Take care.

  2. hi lily,

  3. Storyfairy it is pleasant to see someone with so much hope, that being the reason I chose to follow you. I love the works I have read till now for their beautiful simplicity. In an increasingly divergent World people like you are islands that sustains the Mental Peace of humanity itself. Congratulations on remaining such.

    • Thank you so much, Saturnalis. I always try to have lots of hope, even when it’s hard. Lately it has been very hard to stay hopeful, with all the tragic things going on in the world, but hearing that my hope is inspiring others is a major boost. Thank you again for the comment and for following my blog. Take care.

    • Wow! Thank you! 🙂
Quick question, do Sisterhood of the World nominees need to be female bloggers? Please let me know.
Also, would you be willing to read some of my older, non-poetry posts, letting me know what you like and would like to see more of? I have an idea for what I can start doing in October, but I would still like hearing what other people want to see. Thanks! 🙂

  4. Thanks for redirecting me this way, Lily. I know what you mean about religion. I am a religious pluralist (much like UU I assume), drawing upon Catholicism, Buddhism, paganism, atheist philosophies (Marxist, existentialist, etc.). You’ll build a more solid spiritual house with a full toolbox than you would with just a hammer, right? You can see some of my children’s writing at http://www.garygautier.com. (Btw, I love your name – Norwegian?) Gary
